Interview With Kim Knight - A Stranger In France Tour

INTERVIEW

MM: Many authors relate their characters to people they know. Is this the case with your characters and do you see yourself in any of them?

Deep down Kate Brown is a very strong-headed women, I’d say she is a character I can relate to, due to her nature as a person. Tanya- Kate’s best friend is fun loving, very level headed and no nonsense as a person. I can relate to these traits also.

MM: Who is your favorite character in your book and why?

This is a hard one to answer, as I love them all, even the villain. I think I’d say Kate- the poor girl does not have it easy; she goes on such a bumpy journey to find her happy ever after. I enjoy her a lot as a character. Readers will watch her emerge from a cocoon like a butterfly, then spread her wings. I had real fun writing her point of view.

MM: How would friends and family describe you?

Down to earth, intelligent, easy to get on with, kind-hearted, organized, motivated, a hard worker.

MM: What message do you hope readers will take away from your book?

I hope readers enjoy a gripping and unpredictable romantic story, and enjoy the twists and turns. I’d say I hope readers enjoy the reading experience and characters more than anything.

MM: Do you write other genres as well?

I write in the romance and thriller genres.

MM: Do you have a favorite writing area?

Currently, my kitchen table. I do like cafes as well.

MM: What is an absolute must-have when writing?

Music in the background. Anything goes most of the time!

MM: If you could visit any place in the world to just focus on your writing, where would you go?
Wow this is a very hard choice but I’ say a nice hot and exotic location with beautiful beaches, a warm sea and plenty of cocktails. Non-alcoholic of course (while writing), maybe somewhere in the Caribbean. On the other hand, if I have to choose a city maybe Amsterdam, Paris or New York.

MM: What is your favorite inspiration for writing?

Life, and what we go through as people. I like to create stories that have somewhat of a realistic feel to them, in terms of the experiences the characters have.

MM: Everyone wants to know the story behind the story...What's your story?

I’m thirty-three, from London in the UK. Professionally I’m a qualified teacher and a mother.

MM: Tell us a bit about your writing journey. When did you realize you were a writer?

Well, I’ve always loved reading and writing since school. Later in life the writer in me emerged once I had a bit of life experience behind me, and at a turning point in my life- when the focus was just on me, and what I wanted to do. I just started to write as if no one was looking! I started a crime-thriller story at first, I put that to one side once the idea for a romantic- suspense story (A Stranger in France) popped into my head. Since finishing A Stranger in France, I’ve gone back to my original idea and re-worked it into a much better story line. That’s what I’m working on now.

MM: Where can readers connect with you?

Via my personal author blog. I update it four times a week with lots of fun stuff from short stories, writing prompt responses, sharing news etc. www.kimknightauthor.com on Twitter @kimknightauthor or Facebook @kimknightauthoruk

Thank you so much for taking time to chat with me today. It's been a wonderful pleasure.

Excerpt:

Nicholas guides me to the side of the bar, to the back and unexpectedly we reach a lift, we step in and he presses P on the lift buttons. Alone in the lift I face him dead on, I can’t help myself, his scent, and presence it’s doing things to me and awaking parts of me that have been dead for so long since Danny and I hit our rough patch.
I grab his tie pull him towards me and kiss him with passion . He’s stunned and taken back I can tell; his hands are full with a champagne glass in one and a bucket with iced champagne in the other, he’s unable to touch me or push me away. By the way he’s kissing me so passionately in return I doubt very much we wants our passionate kissing to stop.
We reach our destination and I release him, leaving lipstick stain on his lips I playfully remove it with a finger, and step out the lift in front of him swaying my hips. I half turn around to face him, Nicholas is still standing in the same spot I left him with his champagne glass, ice bucket and a huge wide grin on his face. Damn he looks so good. “What are you waiting for Mr D’Croix?’’ I turn and say over my shoulder in a seductive way, he laughs. “You took me by surprise Ms. Kate.

The Sweet Revenge of Rejection with Mark Rybczyk - The Travis Club (Book Tour & Giveaway)

The Sweet Revenge of Rejection

You’ve spent years writing your manuscript. You’ve gone back through, edited, deleted, changed, made it perfect.

You send it off to an agent or a publisher. Weeks later, a letter arrives. Your hand shakes as you open it. You read it so fast, that you convince yourself you must have read it incorrectly. Surely this can’t be a rejection letter.

If you write, chances are you’ve had this happen to you. Getting a rejection letter after years of work can be crushing.

Ask J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series. She was rejected by a dozen publishers. Only a small London house accepted her work at the request of the CEO’s 8 year old daughter.

Stephen King was rejected dozens of times. As was William Golding’s Lord of the Rings, John le Carre’s The Spy Who Came in From the Cold and Joseph Heller’s Catch 22.
Even The Diary of Anne Frank was rejected 15 times.

If you are a writer, you will be rejected. It is inevitable. Consider it a badge of honor. You are in great company!

Radio listeners in Dallas/Fort Worth may know Mark Louis Rybczyk better as 'Hawkeye,' the long time morning host on heritage country station, 96.3 FM KSCS. An award-winning disc jockey, Mark, along with his partner Terry Dorsey, have the longest-running morning show in Dallas. Mark is an avid skier, windsurfer and traveler. He is also the host of 'Travel With Hawkeye' a radio and television adventure feature that airs across the country. The Travis Club is the third book from Mark Louis Rybczyk.

In a cathedral in downtown San Antonio, just a few blocks from the Alamo, sits the tomb of Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and the other Alamo Defenders. Or so we have been led to believe. What secrets really lie inside the tomb and what has a group of misguided activists known as The Travis Club stumbled upon? How far will the city's power brokers go to protect those secrets?

What would happen if a group of slackers discovered San Antonio's DaVinci Code? Find out in the new book by Mark Louis Rybczyk, The Travis Club.

Excerpt One Short:

Chapter 1

Noel Black sharpened a pencil and placed it neatly back in the top drawer of his glass-topped
desk, right next to the other sharpened pencils. He glanced at the clock then straightened a few
paper clips and a calculator on the stark, polished surface.

11:08 p.m.

He knew he’d be leaving soon. So important to stay on schedule. Especially on a night like
tonight, when a life would come to an end.

Among the abstract paintings of his office was one unframed black and white print. A picture
of her. Not a picture of sentiment, but simply of record. A photo that would soon belong in a file.
Black fingered the yellowed photograph and could not help but think of childhood visits to
his mother’s father, his abuelo. He remembered spending the hot San Antonio summers at a
rickety west-side duplex much different than his parents’ ranch house in Dallas. Abuelo’s home
was filled with people, music, food and love.

As a child, Black would spend summer afternoons within earshot of the front window,
waiting for the rumble of his grandfather’s old diesel engine. Then the home would fill with
other workers, workers who were grateful to the old lady. All immigrants, they had left Mexico
hoping for a better life. The old lady offered them higher wages than the pecan shellers received.

With the promise of steady income came the chance to move into a house with plumbing, to send money home, and to send for other relatives. His grandfather loved the old lady and he did too.

More recently, Noel Black’s feelings about her had changed. She was a relic, an icon of a
past era. Now in her final years of the 20th century, the old lady had outlived her usefulness and
had no place in the modern San Antonio that he envisioned. She was in his way. She needed to be eliminated.

Of course, this kind of work had to be contracted out. He usually relied on a local contact
who understood the procedures. Anytime a life was extinguished, it must be done with precision in Noel Black’s world.

Horror Short Story
Publisher: Silver Tongue Press

Description:

“Mom died in her sleep last night.” Those are terrifying words for a child to wake up to. The beetle that falls off the stretcher and stares at her is only the beginning one of the strangest and most frightening times in Lori’s life. Death is not a pretty thing, especially not when the funeral is to be at the Lights Out Chapel and Crematorium. Once she walks into the funeral parlor, she experiences things that no little girl should ever have to experience. No one is acting normal. No one can see what is going on. Is Lori the only one who sees the blood oozing from the pictures of Jesus on the cross? Doesn’t anyone else see the beetles? Is Lori hallucinating when she sees her mom sit up and hears her speak? There is absolutely nothing soft and tender about what happens to Lori. From her overly morbid piano teacher to the creepy preacher and a father that just isn’t acting like himself, Lori is surrounded by people and things that hint of something bizarre. Once she leaves the Lights Out Chapel and Crematorium, things will go back to normal. Or will they?

 Excerpt 1:

Lori, it’s your turn to say bye now. You need to tell her that you love her and how much you will miss her.” Daddy put me down next to her coffin and placed his hands on my shoulders. He pushed me so close to her death box that I felt the white satin that overlapped to the outside. It rubbed against my hands. At least it was soft for Mommy. She would be comfortable in there.
I decided to speak out loud this time. Maybe no one else would bring me back up here again if I spoke my goodbyes out loud. “Mommy,” I began, but then I started crying so hard I couldn’t speak. Daddy rubbed my shoulders until I quieted down and could begin again. “Mommy, I love you. I don’t want you to leave me. Please come back. No one, not even this Jesus, is worth leaving me over.” I opened my eyes and looked at her. She hadn’t moved since Mrs. Minuet had dragged me up here. But then her eyes opened, and she stared at me. She was staring at me! I sucked my breath in and felt my legs grow weak as my head began to spin. With one hand I grabbed on to the edge of the coffin, while with the other hand I grabbed hold of Daddy’s arm.
Daddy! Daddy! Mommy’s not dead! She looked at me!” I screamed as I jumped up and down. “She was still alive when they took her out of the house. I saw her trying to get out from under the sheet.” I pulled on his arm and shook it. “Please, Daddy. You’ve got to save her.”
Daddy was beginning to sound a bit mad. He picked me up and held me over top of Mommy. “Maybe if you give her a goodbye kiss you’ll understand she’s dead, and believe me when I tell you she isn’t coming back.” I was so close to Mommy’s cheek that I could see the makeup was beginning to cake in her pores. There was no warmth rising up from her body, only icy coldness.

Interview with David Fingerman and Review of Silent Kill - Virtual Book Tour

Today I am doing an interview with author David Fingerman,  plus giving a review of Silent Kill,  a much anticipated post.  Sorry it's late David,  we lost our kitten and our pit and youngest son are so upset.  I had to make a flyer and put it around town lol.
Anyways,  welcome to Walker's Muse David.   I loved Silent Kill!  David is also giving away a signed copy of Silent Kill at the end of his tour,  so leave David a comment to gain an entry and visit his website for his schedule,  or view the Calendar Of Events page for authors on tour.

BK:  Please tell us a little about yourself.

DF:  I've lived in Minnesota my entire life. I love this time of year and am not a fan of summer. Me and heat don't get along. I got severely sunburned years ago when I went to Miami during spring break. My ideal weather is cloudy, 60 degrees, and a good wind. My ideal day is writing in a dimly lit room while listening to my old LPs (vinyl is the way to go, man). Despite rumors to the contrary, I'm really quite sane (clinically speaking).

BK:  What inspired you to pen your first title?

DF:  Inspiration for my first published short story, "Autumnal Equinox" came from a Loreena McKennett song, All Souls Night. Inspiration for "Silent Kill" came from so many years of sitting in the courtroom. One gets to see the best and worst of human behavior and emotion. It's something I strive to capture in my writing.

BK:  How long have you been writing?

DF:  Pretty much since I learned how. But serious writing, since the early 90s, at least that's when I sent out my first short story in hopes of getting it published. (On a side note ~ it never happened. It's now collecting dust in my file drawer. I think there's a moral in there somewhere about perseverance.)

BK:  What was the hardest part about writing this particular novel?

DF:  I had written a lot of short stories and had the mindset that a novel is just a really long short story. It's a totally different thought process. Honestly, I didn't know what I was doing at the beginning (some would say that I still don't). Then there's the research. I'm somewhat lazy when it comes to research, but the deeper I got into the "Silent Kill" the more research I had to do.

BK:  Have any dreams been realized as a result of your writing?

DF:  Just having a book published is a thrill. I certainly don't mean this as a slap to self publishing ~ there are so many advantages to going that route, and I have the utmost respect for authors that do (I've gone that route too), but for me there was a certain validation that someone in the publishing business thought my work was good enough to put into print.

BK:  Is there a message in your novel you want readers to grasp?

DF:  Stay in school and don't take drugs. KIDDING! Messages? Absolutely not! I just want to tell an entertaining story that will stay with the reader long after they put the book down. But seriously ~ stay in school and don't take drugs.

BK:  Where do you hope to take your writing in the future?

DF:  The New York Times bestseller list and movie rights would be just ducky.
What advice do you have for writer's just starting out?

Write every day and write because it's a passion. Join a writers' group. Develop a thick skin. If you can't take criticism (and unfortunately, not all of it will be constructive) you're probably in the wrong line of work.

BK:  Anything else you would like to share with us today?

DF:  Follow my virtual book tour and leave comments. At the end of the tour I'll be drawing a name and sending the winner an autographed copy of "Silent Kill."

Oh yeah ~ stay in school and don't take drugs.

LOL.  Great advice David.  Awesome that you are doing a giveaway too.  So please be sure to leave David a comment for your chance to win.

Now for the Review :).

Silent Kill by David Fingerman was an excellent mix of mystery and suspense.  From the first page Fingerman holds nothing back.

Louise Miller is a female cop that gets a lot of hassle from her fellow officers.  Her brother Andrew is a new cop in a different precinct.

When Mark Lone Bear,  her friend and fellow officer turns up missing,  Louise puts in all effort to find out what happened to him.

Throughout the investigation,  her brother who is getting broken in as a rookie,  stumbles upon a development in Louise's case,  Mark Lone Bear and his car.

When two more people end up missing,  Andrew and Louise work to find answers to Mark Lone Bear's murder and the kidnappings.  The closer they get to finding the murderer,  the more danger that befalls upon those they love and care for.

Was Mark Lone Bear mixed up in something he shouldn't have been that led to his death?  When one more kidnapping hits Louise a little too close to home,  will she save all three before they end up dead too?  Find out in Silent Kill.

Fingerman did an excellent job in his first full length murder/mystery.  Full of suspense and with an imagination that will leave you wanting more,  this is one title you will want to get your hands on.

The perfect mix of crime,  mystery and suspense,  I couldn't put it down until I knew what happened in the end.  I give Silent Kill ***** (5) Stars,  BK Walker.  http://bkwalkerbooks.weebly.com

Book Tour - Diamonds In The Rough by Vogue

Diamonds are a girl's best friend right?  Please welcome my guest today,  Vogue,  author of Diamonds in the Rough.  Welcome Vogue and thank you so much for stopping in.  Today Vogue discusses writer's block.

Tackling the Roadblock

A frequently asked question that most authors get is:

What do you do when you have writer’s block?

Well, there is never a correct answer for this question because it all depends on the person. There are some authors who may try to write through the block while others may take a break.

Personally, I choose not to write. I feel as if I come up with the worst material only because I feel obligated to put something on paper. It is then that I realize that just because I am an author, it doesn’t mean that I have to write daily. My personal advice to all published and aspiring authors is this: Write only when you feel inspired.

It is never good to force yourself to do something that you don’t want to do. Just think; the break might be good for you. You might come up with new ideas for the plot or even a new character.

A lot of times we view writer’s block as something that is negative, but maybe it isn’t. Maybe it’s a blessing in disguise. Here’s an exercise that I recommend for all writers. Even if you only do it once, the next time you experience writer’s block, simply stop writing. Wait a few days or even a few hours and revisit the story. See if you come up with something more exciting and intense then what you wrote last! Feel free to share the results!

Vogue loves to hear from her readers and would love to hear from you too.  You can visit her online at www.simplyvogue.net or find her on Facebook.   She is also on virtual book tour so leave her a comment for your chance to win a copy of this fantastic book.

Thanks again for stopping in Vogue.  Wishing you much success in the future and please keep in touch and let us know when the next book in the series is out.

Book Tour - Time Conquers All by PJ Hultstrand

Today please give a warm welcome to my guest,  author PJ Hultstrand.  She writes a time travel series with the first book titled,  Time Conquers All.  Thank you so much for stopping in today PJ.

When Princess Tamea has reoccurring dreams of a young man fighting in a futuristic war far ahead of her time, she worries about her sanity. But when she also has a vision of this man some years older, where he dies in her arms in another time and place, she knows something in her life is about to change.
Then she meets King Parker and his brothers from the neighboring country of Altare. This King looks just like the man from her vision. Once Tamea touches him, her mind is swept back into his past, and to those dreams that have haunted her for months. As she searches for answers, she finds even more questions about this King's mysterious past and how his country had quickly gained their land from their neighboring countries of Nepal and Bengal.

When King Parker meets the youngest Colonel in Laie's history, he's definitely not comfortable with this young woman being assigned to personally guard his safety while their two countries forge a new alliance. To finalize the treaty, which would allow Altare to share their technologically advanced weapons, King Parker knows it's his duty to marry Laie's queen. However, he finds it hard to seal the deal when he realizes it's not Queen Suu-Naung he needs and desires, but the young, passionate Princess Tamea who possesses a warrior's instincts.

Parker questions his own sanity in starting this love affair, just as he questions how this young lady could have become a high-ranking officer in the 1500's Asia, where women's rights were suppressed behind curtains and veils.

As Tamea's psychic abilities suddenly blossom, Parker becomes irrevocably connected to her in this time and place. With the passionate Princess igniting the fire in his life, Parker also begins questioning his long-standing scientific goal; going back to his future.
It seems, as soon as they find each other, intrigue and war threaten to separate them forever. Altare and Laie must quickly join forces to stop their mutual enemies from within their own ranks and from their neighboring country of Bengal.

Princess Tamea begins healing the King's emotional scars leftover from another time and place, in the 1960's America, where Parker fought for his country in the Vietnam War. Even though the Princess has been trained to infiltrate and protect, it's King Parker of Altare who brings in the big guns from an era long in the future, saving her from the enemies' torturous plans.

Time does indeed conquer all! . . .thus proving the mystical theory that everything happens for a reason . . .even when what happens is not correct - In this Chasing Time series.

She became hooked when one of her short stories was published in the local library literary magazine. Her first love became science-fiction when she was introduced to the works of Ray Bradbury.
Fandom bit her when she actually met the man behind the works in 1987 at a special engagement speech in Phoenix, Arizona. ***** Review of The Health Farm Murders by John Howard Reid

Picture

The Health Farm Murders by John Reid was fantastic.  For any murder mystery fan,  this title is sure to keep you guessing until the very end.

Merryll Manning is going on holiday.  In need of a break, and time to relax he heads to the Health Farm,  for some much needed rejuvination.

On the train he meets some others heading to the same place.   While Merryll is ready to start to relax,  that is the last thing that he will be granted as a series of murders take place.

As a Sergeant on the police force,  he must take command and help local police solve these murders.  The problem is,  it could be any one of the guests staying at the Health Farm.

Local police want to point the finger at a know "bad boy"  of the community,  only Merryll is sure it's not him.  Merryll must prove his innocence and find the real killer before "Jimbo"  Punter meets his demise.

Reid did a fantastic job writing The Health Farm Murders.  Action packed and sure to keep you guessing until the very end.  With a surprising twist you will definitely want to add this to your murder/mystery collection.

I give The Health Farm Murders ***** (5) Stars, BK Walker,  http://bkwalkerbooks.weebly.com

When I Remember Love by Trish Silver

Please give a warm welcome to my guest today - Trish Silver.

Trish Silver
When I Remember Love
Publisher iUniverse
Copyright March 2009
http://trishsilver.com
Maybe purchased online at Amazon, Smashwords, Barnes and Noble, and trishsilver.com
Bio: I was born and raised in Whitefish Bay, WI. I went to college at the University Of Cincinnati School Of Journalism. I moved to Los Angeles in the turbulent 1960's and met my husband Ed. We have been happily married for 42 years and have two sons, Matthew and David and a wonderful daughter-in-law Kathy. We also have two beautiful grandchildren, Sarah and Jack. I always dabbled in writing and was told that I had a gift. I finally found my passion in writing this novel. Life has been good to me.
I was inspired to write this book after closely following the journey of a real American Idol from his television debut to his realization of a life-changing career. This journey provided me insight into the characteristics of a phenomenal fan base, as well as an inside look at how someone can find the strength to stay grounded despite the unsettling impact of stardom.
Synopsis: Certainly. Aidan Price, born in Texas, was raised by his mother after his father left them when Aidan was only two years old. His musical talent was apparent at an early age and his mother encouraged its growth. Despite being teased by other kids for not liking sports, Aidan still pursued his love of music by singing in the school choir. By the time he was in high school, Aidan blossomed from an awkward child to a handsome teen with many followers, especially after his fantastic job as the lead in the school performance of Grease. Later he began performing at weddings, bar mitzvahs, and other high-end parties to supplement his income while in college. After losing his girlfriend in a tragic accident, he dropped out of college and formed a rock band. At the encouragement of his fans, Aidan auditioned for American Star and thus begins his exciting journey in the music industry. When Aidan agrees to meet his new music agent's niece, he never dreams of the role she will come to play in his life.

Jenna Holden grew up as an only child, surrounded by love from her parents, Kate and Nathan. They were a close knit family. Jenna's mother was her best friend. Then suddenly Jenna loses Kate to brain cancer and her world is turned upside down. Jenna and her father fell into the routine of watching American Star, the reality television show, where talented singers perform in hopes of winning a recording contract. She became mesmerized by contestant Aidan Price whose beautiful voice brought comfort during her time of grief. Jenna is persuaded to go visit her Aunt Vanessa in Los Angeles, who happens to be a music agent and has just signed on none other than Aidan Price. Jenna's aunt, who knows of her fondness of Aidan, invites Jenna to come with her to a lunch meeting with her newest mysterious client. When Aidan walks into the restaurant Jenna's life is forever changed a second time.
Aidan and Jenna are instantly drawn to each other and are aware of little else in their surroundings. The two spend some magical time together and shortly after fly to Las Vegas to get married. They embark on a beautiful journey of love where their relationship is put to the test as Aidan's rise to stardom begins to climb. The two will also have to deal with not only media scrutiny, but also personal crises that threaten to tear apart their happy family forever.
I am in the process of writing a sequel to When I Remember Love. The scalding temperatures of my characters are not ready to cool down without my readers. Writing the sequel, The Price of Love, I felt that we must continue following their journey of heated love and compassion that will develop into many surprises along the way. In this sequel, I design my plots as does an architect by fitting my characters in each room of their lives.
On the flip side of the coin, I am also creating a new series of self help books. So many people have told me that my novel reads like a marriage manual and has helped to make their couplings stronger and more amorous. This is why I decided to write this new series. Each book will cover a different aspect of married life and hopefully, will help lovers bond like Jenna and Aidan.

Thank you so much for stopping in Trish.  It has been a pleasure.
