He looked across at Darrell, who was keeping his face impassive. Emma waited to resume the conversation until coffee and the cups to go along with it had been distributed. Margie did a double take at Emma sitting beside Cole, and her eyes sparkled with held-back questions. Cole only shrugged. Margie might think they were cute together, but forgiveness, if that was what was happening here, was only the start.

“So we can start with a clean slate as far as I’m concerned,” she said, fiddling with a few packs of sugar with a nervous gesture he found surprisingly endearing.

“Sure,” he answered as he poured five packs of sugar into his own coffee and stirred it. “That works for me, I guess.” He wondered if she was forgiving him because she liked him, or because she liked Marshall and didn’t want a strained relationship with Marshall’s little brother.

“So,” Emma said, trying to be friendly and change gears on the conversation. “What do you do?”

“What do you mean?” Cole asked in confusion.

“Well,” Emma hesitated slightly, as if searching for the right words. “Darrell rides in the rodeos and Marshall runs the ranch. What do you do?”

“Marshall doesn’t run Silver River!” Cole wished his tone hadn’t been quite so harsh when Emma practically flinched. “We all own the ranch in equal shares.”

“Oh.” Emma wrapped her hands around her coffee mug as if she was trying to warm them up. “I didn’t know that.”

“Trust me,” Cole said flatly. “I do just as much as anybody else on that ranch.”

“More than me,” Darrell offered, clearly trying to smooth the situation over.

It worked, just not in the way that he’d been going for. Emma took the opportunity to change the subject.

“Is the rodeo a lot of work?” Emma wondered.

Darrell nodded.

“I guess you have to do a lot of training too,” she went on.

Darrell nodded again.

“So you really don’t talk much, do you?”

Darrell shrugged and Emma smiled at him.

“At least you’ve got that going for you,” she said, turning back to Cole and giving him a different sort of smile. It was almost shy and one look at it sent his bad day to the back of his mind as nothing more than a memory.

“It’s God’s lack of action, not his actions that disprove his existence. If prayer really worked there would be groups of theists (nuns, priests, imams, whatever) going from bed to bed in every hospital healing the sick. Of course there are religious people in hospitals going along praying for people but a doctor washing his hand before seeing his patients will do more for their survival rates than the prayers offered by their holy men. The evil God monster of Abraham is an all-powerful God and can do absolutely anything except give any type of viable proof of his existence.

Often times a theist will counter with the old ‘God works in mysterious ways’ or stammer on about how he’s not there for us to boss around and do our bidding in vain attempts to get him to prove himself to us but in reality it’s just a bunch of crap. Studies have shown that when sick people are prayed for by fervent believers they are more likely to be healed. Other, more scientific studies have shown that when you allow religious nutbags to carry out their own studies they tend to be skewed towards their religious beliefs. I’m absolutely confident that a prayer method of healing can never stand up to the simple rigors of repeatability.

It is absolutely amazing the wealth of proof to disprove God you can come up with when turning a keen eye upon the absence of God's presence. The millions of children who starve to death, are beaten to death or who are being raped throughout the world is each and every one a testament to the non-existence of a personal God, especially if those children and/ or their parents believe in one of the Abrahamic death cults. And to counter with the idea that God is calling those children who die such horrible deaths to heaven to be with him because he for whatever reason has suddenly decided heaven needs more children is disgusting and vile. If your God is able to ‘see all’ and watch these children die slow agonizing deaths over months or years due to starvation, malnutrition, rape and outright murder and do nothing or to be able to watch children be repeatedly raped by gangs of men and not smite the men on the spot then your God is either not real or quite malevolent. If you the reader were ever attacked by an adult as a child and an invisible hand didn’t swoop in to protect you then you know exactly what I mean. Many victims have often asked, ‘Where was god when x happened to me?’”

Have you ever created an amazing plot, but didn’t know how to work from conception to story? It’s something many believe to be easy to do, but quickly find out it is easier said than done. Writing your novel starts with the plot and theme. The plot is a few sentences describing what the story is about. Theme is the foundational concept in which the core of your story boils down to one or two specific words. But once you have these two down, how do you move forward with your story?

Your first step after you have your plot, theme, and characters would be to outline your story. You’ll find many successful writers plan out their story beforehand. Likewise, there are many that don’t and can be just as successful. I encourage the outline as a way for the writer to see where their story will go. This will help minimalize a relentless flow of writing that will cause your story to go on too long.

Once the outline is complete, it’s time to sit down and write your scenes or chapters. Each one should be designed to keep the readers’ attention, move the general story, and further the character development. With your outline in hand, you should be able to accurately map out your characters as they transition from living their normal average life and become the person that faces the challenges and conflicts of your story.

Each chapter or scene should include a well-developed description of the scene or actions. For example; don’t write it was a hot day. Instead, write how the hot sun feels; have the character stare into the cloudless sky; the sun beams off the water’s edge; the possibilities are endless. If you do this right, your reader can visualize the scene instead of just reading through.

Another major factor in each chapter is dialogue. This is key to the story feeling like a reality to your readers. Dialogue should help move the story along and used to create tension, conflict, romance, etc. You want readers to visualize your story, so I would not recommend using proper English language for people in New York, Detroit, Chicago areas. Likewise, you wouldn’t want your characters talking like they live in a heavy populated city with a thick accents and their own lingo when you’re writing about a small country side town that is very polite and proper. Tailor your dialogue to the right setting for your story.

By following these basic rules for writing your chapters or scenes, you should have a good foundation for your story. They will help you build on your idea and evolve your plot and theme from conception to full story.

The bright faces of seventy-six seniors sitting in folding chairs faced them, eagerly waiting to begin the next phase of their lives. They were seated in alphabetical order with the men wearing blue and the ladies in white. The bleachers adjacent the stage were filled with proud parents, including Trevor’s mom and dad.

On cue, Mr. Thomas rose and approached the microphone. He gave a short speech on how proud he was of each senior, and especially the one of his own. After embarrassing Faith, he proceeded with a very beautiful prayer for the graduating class. The principal then took over, giving a short dignified speech. The vice principal then added a speech of his own, pointing out some humorous events that happened this past year. The football field echoed with laughter, at the expense of certain humiliated seniors. The principal then came forward to begin handing out diplomas as the vice principal called out the names of each graduate.

All seventy-six seniors made their way across the stage and back to their seats, where they all stood eagerly waiting for the announcement, to then throw their caps high into the air in celebration. The principal gazed out over the graduates, as an unusual smirk grew upon his face. He then made a most unusual request, calling Faith Thomas back to the stage. All eyes fell curiously upon Faith as she made her way through her classmates and then slowly onto the stage. Faith wore a confused expression as she stared into her father’s smiling face. His glassy eyes then turned to her rear—causing hers to follow. To her surprise, Trevor was approaching, wearing a smirk of his own.

Trevor stepped close, placing her hands within his. “Faith,” he said with a twinkle in his eyes, “I pledge my whole heart and soul to you…today and for all the tomorrows that the Lord will bless me with.” He lowered to a knee, his sneakers and blue jeans peeking out from under his graduation gown. Faith’s mouth dropped and eyes watered, as all the girls in the crowd squealed. “Faith, will you marry me?” he asked as silence fell—all waiting for her reply.

With tears of joy streaming down her cheeks, Faith watched as Trevor opened a tiny black velvet box, revealing what she thought was the most beautiful ring she had ever laid eyes on. Everyone in the audience quietly waited for her response. Too choked up to speak, she nodded in agreement as Trevor slipped on the ring. The crowd erupted in celebration, as the graduating class yelled while throwing their caps high into the air.

But not everyone shared in the excitement. One particular senior still sat in her seat with her cap still on her head, glaring through tear-stained eyes at the happy couple on stage. All her hopes and dreams were laid to waste by a tiny diamond ring. With Faith away at college, and Trevor at home attending the nearby community college, Denise had planned on turning up the heat on her pursuit for Trevor. With Faith gone and not running interference, it would be only a matter of time before Trevor would give in to his desires. She was attractive enough to weaken the knees of any devout man, which left an eighteen-year-old hormonal machine without a prayer of surviving her seduction.

Running was tiring and she so badly wanted somewhere to call home. She had been on her way to stay with a childhood friend in Wichita Falls when her truck broke down, and even though it had only been two days ago, it felt like another lifetime.

“I guess that happens sometimes with older vehicles. The parts aren’t as easy to find as they used to be,” she finally said when she got the coffee swallowed. “Isn’t your friend in Wichita Falls going to be worried about you?” Shad asked, walking around the now clean desk and inspecting the files she had neatly stacked on one side.

“Oh,” she said, setting down her cup next to his on the desk and picking up an envelope from the top of one of the filing cabinets. “Could you mail this for me? It’s a letter telling her what happened.”

Shad smiled at her. “A letter? You have heard of phones, right? We may be out in the country, but we’ve got fancy things like phones and electricity.”

“Old school is just how I roll.” She winked and turned away from him, hoping he wouldn’t catch the fear in her eyes. If her experience with the stalker had taught her nothing else, it had made her very aware of the influence technology had over everyone’s life, even technology as basic as a telephone.

“I’m going to start getting lunch ready. I’ll be sure to come and get you whenever it’s done.”

“What are you making?” she asked, licking her lips mockingly.

“It’s a special recipe. You’ll just have to wait to find out,” he told her, winking a little as he headed to the door.

“You know, as good as you cook, I’m surprised you live in this house alone.” she joked, putting her hands on her hips and smiling broadly. He had cooked all of the meals for the two of them since her arrival. “You’ve put five pounds on me already.”

He looked her up and down, appraising her, and suddenly Clara felt almost naked in the shorts and button-up shirt she was wearing, as if his eyes were searing into her flesh. “You were too skinny. The five pounds filled you out in all the right places.”

He reached out and ran the palm of his hand down her arm. She shivered under his touch, but she didn’t take her eyes from his. They had darkened again, and she could see the desire there and knew it was reflected in hers as well. Before she could think about what she was doing, she put her arms around his neck, drew his face to hers, and kissed him.

His lips were hard at first, but after a moment, they softened, and he returned her embrace. When his tongue slipped into her mouth she groaned low and leaned into him as a fire uncoiled in her abdomen. It had been so long since a man had made her feel this way, and she felt herself slipping into unknown territory.

For once, she let herself go.

Comfort will be found in understanding that God is bigger than any situation and He catches ever tear. Miracles so often go unnoticed, yet powerfully affect those they touch. Snow will set the stage for future novels reflective of countless miracles and divine intervention.

Mrs. Davis grabbed Luke by the arm and pulled him along behind her as she purposefully marched toward the bar. After ordering a Grey Goose martini, she turned around to face Luke.

"You know why I brought you over here," she glared at him, her voice shaking with anger.

"Yeah, I know." Luke sat on the bar stool and folded his arms on the counter.

"What are you going to do about this, Luke?"

"I don't know, Mom. She wants to have it."

"You can't allow that to happen. You know that."

"I can't make her do it." Luke ran his hands through his un-gelled hair. " And her mom! She just won't stop interfering. She had this church lady come over yesterday and talk to Ruth about

having the abortion. That lady managed to change her mind, because, believe it or not, I did have her convinced."

Mrs. Davis sipped her martini and lit a cigarette. "Well, we have to get rid of this one. You can't have two of these things hanging over your head for the next eighteen years."

"I don't know how to convince her." He laughed as he said, "I told her, when we first found out, that I'd hire someone to beat her up and make her miscarry."

Mrs. Davis chuckled, "Or you could just kill her."

"Mother, please."

Mrs. Davis tapped the ashes off her cigarette and motioned for Luke to leave. "Don't worry; I'll take care of this. Tell her to come here."

Luke got off the bar stool and went into the arcade. He should have gone straight to look for Ruth, but part of him didn't want his mom to convince her to have the abortion. He loved how

sweet and obedient Ruth was and didn't want to lose her. His eye caught a military game, so he headed over, ready to release some frustration.

  Read this yourself. You'll gain a great understanding of what your kids are going through at school and socially. Then, give it to your daughter (or son). This novel was written to tell the truth. It's not sugar coated...it's just blunt. The main character, a virgin, looses her virginity to a guy she believes loves her. Over time he has made her feel obligated to prove her love to him. After a one time mistake she finds herself pregnant at 15. Her boyfriend has a checkered past filled with girls that either were pregnant or are pregnant. He and his family pressure her to abort the baby. The novel graphically describes the abortion process and reveals the emotions that overwhelm Ruth. There are many lessons in this book and although it may invoke discussions about premarital sex, abortion, and abuse you will be grateful that your daughter (or son) is receiving a valuable, positive message.Because of the content, I do not recommend this book to anyone under 13 or 7th grade.
